Moving House Checklist
1 Month Before Moving Day
- Confirm your moving date with AB Castle
- Get rid of everything you don’t want to be moved
- Book a few days off work either side of moving day, if needed
- Make arrangements for child care and/or pet sitting, if needed
- Buy packing supplies and boxes if you are moving on your own
- Change addresses on all important letters and documents
- Notify everyone who needs to know about your move, friends, family, workplace
- Make a list of everything you are moving to so you know what to look for at your new place
2 Weeks Before Moving
- Pack everything that isn’t essential, e.g majority of plates, pans and cutlery
- use up all frozen foods and try not to buy too much food from this point onwards
- Contact your doctor and dentist to get copies of all records and arrange to transfer files to the new health care providers
- Contact your insurance provider to update your home insurance, car insurance and other policies you may have
- Hire a temporary storage unit if you think some things may not fit inside your house.
- Speak to your new neighbours and ensure there is room for a moving van on your new road
1 Week Before moving
- Confirm with the solicitor and estate agents that the move is going to plan
- Keep things like important letters and documents safe when packing
- Maintain a tidy home. Keep everything in order, including the bedding and personal items you’ll need on your trip.
- Make sure to include a bag/box of essentials such as clothes, blankets, food, and toiletries so that you don’t have to search through all of your belongings when you first arrive at your new home
- Find out when you can move into your new home and pick up the keys
Moving Day
- Make sure you wake up early, at least a few hours before your moving time
- Take all curtains down and pack up bed sheets
- Unplug any appliances you are taking with you, dryer, washing machine, oven etc
- Keep any essential boxes separate so that they don’t get packed away
- Tell your removal company what is needs moving and what doesn’t need moving
- Leave all the sets of keys as arranged for the new owners
- Make sure everything is in order, conduct a walk around to double-check and then rest. We’ll handle the rest
